My dear friend Sara has three of the most gorgeous little girls you’ve ever laid eyes upon. Lexi, her oldest, recently spent hours in the Moroccan store at Epcot, gingerly exploring the piles of indigenous treasures. Having already exhausted their souvenir budget after a week at Disney, her parents had to pass on the Moroccan hand drum, which broke little Lexi’s heart. Because I am not above bribing children to earn their undying affection, I grabbed three Moroccan hand drums on my next trip to Morocco and sent them off to Sara. Within days, I received the most gleeful call, Lexi’s excited voice crooning over the phone “Miss Lela, YOU. GOT. MY. DRUUUUUMMMM!” Indeed, I had. And I could hear the clamor of her sisters Abby and Bella playing with their drums in the background, too. Isn’t childhood utterly fantastic?
Inspired by those sweet girls, we’ve put together a traditional Moroccan band, complete with hand drum, a pair of authentic Moroccan castanets and a sinter (affectionately called a “Berber guitar”). These indigenous instruments are the foundation of Moroccan Gnawa music, a blend of music and dance that is at once both prayer and song. Inspire your little ones to strike up a parade and celebrate all things Moroccan- their creativity may just surprise you!

The purchase of this product directly supports talented craftsmen in Morocco. In addition, this single purchase enables From Morocco, With Love to provide ten dental kits to young children. With only one dentist per 80,000 Moroccans, dental hygiene is a serious problem in this developing country. Our dental kits are comprised of a toothbrush, toothpaste, and a pamphlet (translated in both Berber and Arabic) explaining the importance of oral hygiene.
