Hassane Akhiyad
Born and raised in the beautiful coastal village of Essaouira, Hassane is one of seven siblings in a large Berber family. He lives just outside the ancient medina in a traditional Moroccan home, with fabulous views of the Essaouira beaches from the rooftop terrace. When he isn’t looking for exotic treasures to share with From Morocco with Love shoppers, he bodysurfs Atlantic waves, dances the tango and enjoys watching football. Hassane is fluent in four languages (Berber, Arabic, French and English), making him invaluable in navigating the multi-national business transactions of the company. The experience he has gained by helping operate his family's carpet shop in Essaouira has fostered a keen eye for quality and craftsmanship.
Though Lela was born and raised in the Deep South, she’s always had a heart for travel. She spends her days managing the globally-inspired beauty company known as Bella Luccè, which she founded in 2003. When not keeping all the Bella Luccè balls in the air, she’s busy raising her two lovely daughters and planning her next travel adventure. In the past few years, she’s managed to see the wonders of Italy, Greece, the Netherlands, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, India and Morocco. Though she’s not one to turn down a plane ticket to anywhere, she’s especially smitten with the Middle East and North Africa. An avid vegetarian and practicing Buddhist, there’s nothing Lela loves more than studying world cultures and indigenous traditions. Except, perhaps, for dark chocolate and Dave Matthews…but those are hard to top.
